Privacy In The 21st Century

As I continue to live and rule in the 21st century, my responsibility still remains preserving the history in Oceania. Going back to the year of 1984, there were many responsibilities taken into place in the Ministries. As I begin to think about the responsibilities I addressed back then, a certain event comes into mind… Around the month of July in 1984, a male by the name of Winston Smith was arrested for failing self-discipline and humanity. He was captured by a Thought Police who worked for me, Mr. Charrington. I assigned this man the duty to go under cover giving the image that he was against the Party and I, Big Brother. The few people that Smith encountered during his lifetime all had the idea that he was willing to go “Down with Big Brother.” During Smith’s time in the Ministry of Love I demanded torture to Smith by a person who he thought had the same opinion as him. This person was O’Brien, a man who convinced Smith that he was a part of a so called organization, the Brotherhood. He tortured him in an electric chair forcing him to say everything he knew and brainwashing him into an ideal party member. The whole situation was lead by myself, I had the say in every workers responsibilities. The reason for the undercover personalities and electric chairs was to preserve the societies privacy. In the society that I continue to rule today, these responsibilities are still taken into account. The government always wants to know the truth, but they know it won’t be told when their people are told to do so in that very moment. With this being said, government officials go undercover to find out the truth without the victim knowing until further do. There have been cases when the people know things that I don’t want being released, so I take hostage of the person and put him/her into a lying detecting chair to see what they know. Times have changed, the way I preserve the history has changed, but I, Big Brother have not changed...
